Dr. Savitz grew up in Tampa, Florida. After completing college and medical school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Surgeon. He was the Senior Flight Surgeon at Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro, California where he then went on to become the Senior Flight Surgeon/Medical Officer for Marine Air Group 70 in the Persian Gulf War and stationed aboard the USS New Orleans Amphibious Assault Carrier. Dr. Savitz received numerous military honors and citations while serving. He has had the honor of caring for US Naval/Marine pilots and their families during his tenure in the Navy. He also had the privilege of flying alongside these pilots in F-4 Phantom supersonic jets and Huey/Cobra helicopters of which he will have lifelong memories. He left active duty in 1994 to pursue his residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University/Sinai Hospital program while continuing to serve in the US Navy Reserve with the rank Lieutenant Commander. He was chief resident and earned Board Certification in this specialty.
He currently serves at the Medical Director of Athens Orthopedic Clinic Occupational Health/Workers Comp division and has been with AOC since 2007.
Dr. Savitz has two daughters. He and his wife, Wendy (a high school counselor) enjoy tennis, exercising, and traveling.
