About Cody White, MD

Dr. Charles “Cody” White, IV is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction, with additional expertise in arthroscopy of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee.  A native of Atlanta, GA, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Georgia before going on to earn his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina.  

He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga at Erlanger Medical Center. Finally, he completed fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Reconstruction at the renowned Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas in Greenville, South Carolina, training with international experts in Sports Medicine and Shoulder/Elbow surgery.

Dr. White treats a broad range of orthopedic conditions and injuries, with particular focus on rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, and complex shoulder and knee reconstruction, as well as sports-related injuries of the hip, knee, and elbow. He has served as team physician for collegiate and high school athletic programs across South Carolina and Tennessee, and will serve as Head Team Physician for Georgia College and State University. Alongside AOC, he is committed to the care of local middle and high school athletes.

Dr. White employs a patient-centered approach to care, taking time to listen to each patient’s goals and tailoring treatment accordingly. He employs a wide array of nonoperative modalities as first line treatment when appropriate. If surgery is necessary, he combines minimally invasive surgical techniques with a passion for helping people of all ages and abilities return to the activities they enjoy, safely and efficiently.

An active contributor to his field, Dr. White has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents his research at national meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Annual Meetings. He is a candidate member of the AAOS, AANA, AOSSM, and ASES.

When he’s not at work, Dr. White enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, exploring everything Athens has to offer, and cheering on the Dawgs on game day. He is an avid golfer and also enjoys skiing, watersports, racquet sports, and playing guitar.
