About Michael Shane Smith, MD

Michael Shane Smith, MD, is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and fellowship-trained in all aspects of sports medicine.  

He is a Louisiana native who received his undergraduate in Biomedical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University as a student-athlete.  Dr. Smith attended medical school at Louisiana State University Health Center, Louisiana’s flagship and most comprehensive academic health sciences center.  After graduating, Dr. Smith completed his residency in orthopedics at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where he received comprehensive training in general orthopedics.  He specialized in sports medicine, arthroscopy and orthopedic trauma training at Lake Tahoe Orthopedic Institute in Nevada before returning back to Georgia.

Dr. Smith and his wife, Amy, reside in Walton County with their three children. They are fully committed to active roles in their community and church and believe in paying it forward.

He is a huge outdoorsman and loves spending time with his family and coaching youth sports through the local recreation department.
