Summary

This study evaluated near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) as a way to monitor tissue oxygenation in an acute limb compartment syndrome model in pigs. Researchers found that NIRS closely tracked changes in tibial intracompartmental pressures and perfusion, detecting decreases in oxygenation with rising pressures and increases after fasciotomy. The results suggest NIRS is a sensitive tool for monitoring compartment pressures and tissue perfusion.
