Frequently Asked Questions
< Back to Patient ResourcesDo I need a prescription for physical therapy?
The Direct Access Law allows patients to be seen by a licensed physical therapist for either 21 days or 8 visits (whichever comes first) in the state of Georgia, though most insurance companies have limitations on payment for patients being treated without an MD order. In short, a therapy prescription is preferable.
Will my insurance cover therapy and will there be out-of-pocket expenses?
In most cases, health insurance will cover all or a portion of the treatment costs. There may be out-of-pocket expenses (co-payments, coinsurances, or deductibles) that the patient is required to pay, which is determined by the patient’s insurance provider. Our staff will run your insurance benefits, verify your eligibility, and walk you through the coverage details relayed to them by your insurance company.
Does AOC Therapy accept patients referred from other doctor’s offices?
We accept all patients and outside referrals in the Athens Orthopedic Clinic Therapy Department. Therapy coverage is subject to the specifics of your insurance plan. Please note: as an outside referral, some insurance companies reimburse physical or occupational therapy at the out-of-network rate. This is due to contractual provisions and the credentialing specifics placed on providers. We are happy to run your benefits and explain any contractual limitations and network rates.
