Summary

This study tested near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for monitoring muscle oxygenation in specific forearm compartments during exercise. Researchers found that NIRS values decreased in the actively contracting muscles while resting compartments remained unchanged, demonstrating that NIRS can provide compartment-specific oxygenation measurements. These findings suggest potential for NIRS in assessing perfusion in upper extremity injuries.
