Summary
This review explores recent advances in understanding and managing acute compartment syndrome (ACS). It highlights that ACS is often caused by tissue swelling or reperfusion rather than just fluid accumulation and emphasizes the risks of delayed diagnosis. New diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, including near-infrared spectroscopy, ultrafiltration catheters, radio-frequency implants, and inflammatory markers, aim to improve detection and treatment while addressing limitations of traditional pressure measurements.
